The Loaves, Fishes and Computers Donation Program
Loaves, Fishes & Computers, Inc. actively searches for computers and accessories (via our flier, word of mouth and Craigslist), collect them, erase the hard drive [per Department of Defense standards], fix them up, install Windows 7 or Microsoft XP Professional & Office 2007 Home and Student (Word/Excel/Outlook/Power Point) or Open Office productivity suite, and a free, maintenance-free anti-virus program.
Once the refurbished system is fully operating, we provide it to an approved Monterey County applicant that is financially challenged. We include a modern clean computer, monitor, printer, mouse, keyboard, and support, depending on the need. Also, if the recipient does not know how to hook up their own computer, or are too disabled to do so, we will go to their home and do so for them. If the recipient does not know how to operate a computer, we offer education at our office or at their home.
Not only do these computers get a second chance, they provide our clients with the ability and resources to improve their lives in many ways: Whether it be looking for employment and sending immediate responses to inquiries; researching information for homework; or, filing governmental paperwork without the cost of postage. Email can be exchanged with teachers or employers; Grades can be checked in real-time. Lives are improved, dependency is lowered, and life is more fruitful for all.
As of now, we are an incorporated non-profit within the state of California and are currently in the process of submitting our federal application for 501(c)(3) status, which will allow us to request grants, issue tax-deductible receipts to donors and become exempt from certain federal and state taxes.
Currently, we are solely funded by our computer repair services and small admin fees for our computers..
